Micro- and meso-scale research activities to investigate the main fundamental phenomena associated with fire initiation, development and suppression. Concepts from a variety of scientific disciplines, such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat- and mass-transfer, chemical kinetics are used to determine and quantify the main parameters affecting a fire.
Current research activities focus on the investigation of basic flame dynamics in compartment fires and detailed investigation of the fundamental heat- and mass-transfer phenomena affecting pool fires.
